Distant Lines

State Library Queensland commissioned 3 short films showcasing the diaries, letters and photographs of soldiers and chaplains who fought and worked on the front lines during WWI. The diaries and letters of Major Bourne and Rev. George Green were inspiration for the film. Both were posted to Gallipoli. Brisbane actors read their letters out as if they were speaking directly to their loved ones on camera.

“The 2nd Light Horse Regiment”, “Queensland chaplains during WWI”, and “The origins of ANZAC day in QLD” played in the gallery space for the Distant Lines exhibition, curated by Robyn Hamilton and Kevin Wilson. Each film has become part of the SLQ permanent collection which is accessible online.

A fourth digital story about the first WWI death registers was also completed in 2016.
